So, we made it through the night. It wasn't near as bad as i thought it would be. In saying this, my neck is stiff, my back is starting to tighten up, and I'll really know all about it in the morning. Them things hit HARD!!!!!! On the up side they dont snap you around like the car demos can. I must say it is and eire feeling being up on 2 wheels and the world starting to go sideways in one of those things.... School bus demo derby isnt for everyone, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
I took my bus out in the heat and ran a strong 3rd (note to self: water proof the starter next time). I took a bad hit in the front and got it wet.
Wayne wasn't feeling well, so he had me run his bus. When we went out for the second heat we were told "no front end hits". Well, about half way through i got hit in the front by not one, but 2 busses at the same time. Kinda unnerving sitting there and seeing the ass end of 2 busses coming strait at you and not being able to do a damn thing about it...(picture the cartoon eyes bulging out of my head at this point).
I was mad at that point with my radiator crushed and thinking my night was soon to be over. After that i kinda snapped and started really drilling any one I could. I almost flipped another guy right infront of the grandstand. Got a good chear for that one. My anger seemed to work because i won my heat and made it to the finals. Down side was that my alternator belts were snapped and there was no way to get new ones on.
We charged the battery as best we could and went out for the feature. I got a few good hits in, but it wasn't long before my battery was totaly dead. I ended up finishing 5th. I got a big trophey and $400 for my work, not too bad considering the biggest thing i demoed before this was a 4cyl car.
I want to thank Wayne for the 2nd chance, Barb, Lisa, and Jamie for all the help, everyone who made it out for the show, and most importanly J&M Home Building, The Battery Post, UAW Local 55, and King Towing. Now its time to start getting ready for next year....
